Hi Everybody—-
As I work on my songwriting, I stumble across opportunities and news that I can’t really do much with (since I can’t sing to save my life) but that would probably be interesting to my friends who are artists and managers. So I’m passing it along to you. If you find my emails burdensome, just let me know and I’ll take you off the list!
Here’s what I learned this week:
New York female rock singer needed. Multi-platinum selling Rock producer seeks female singer for Rock project. If you are between 16 and 23, got a great voice, look, energy, and have what it takes to front a KROQ-type major edgy, big-budget rock band, they want to hear from you. For audition information email auditionnotice@gmail.com with complete contact information and links to your music / myspace. Tell them in your email that you got the tip from songwriters-circle.com because that’s where I got it from.
Radio request lines. I had a nice chat with some friends of mine who are in the radio business this week. I asked: does anybody really pay attention when people call in and request songs? The answer is: it depends how big the market is. For large market and medium market stations, your requests will be completely and utterly ignored—they will tell you they will try to fit your song in but the truth is that they won’t.
Here’s a handy online list of radio markets, ranked by Arbitron: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_radio_markets
However smaller market stations do indeed track requests. So if you have a song on the radio, have your friends focus on the small and medium market stations (i.e. avoid the top 70-80 markets on this list!).
Spin Tracking. How do you know how many spins you’re getting? You can wait for your radio promoter to tell you—if you trust them. Or you can hire a company like mediaguide to tell you, at least for the stations they track. Here’s the link:
